The mysterious ship, widely believed to be a Ukrainian suicide plane, has been washed away near a Russian naval base.
The ship was found in Omega Bay, near the port of Sevastopol, home of Vladimir Putin Black Sea Fleet.
The drone is believed to be among several aircraft that the United States has donated to Ukraine in an effort to help turn the tables on a large scale. Russian Navy.
Why it settled on rocks in Omega Bay remains a mystery, but it remains intact indicating a mechanical failure.
While the interior is not pictured, submarine expert H.I. Sutton believes its “curved shape, with external reinforcement, is suggestive of a warhead.”
“Going forward, there is a theory that this device is designed to ram and detonate another ship, like the modern interpretation of an exploding boat,” he wrote in Navy News.
“This also explains the array of sensors on the front.”
He said the ship “appears to have slipped past the patrol boats of the Russian Navy”.
Sutton described the drone as “small but purposeful” and is powered by a single engine, mounted inside, that drives a steerable seaplane.
“This indicates a relatively high performance, it is designed for speed,” he added.
“And such a small vessel, about the size of a kayak, would likely have a very small radar signature.”
Sevastopol has been targeted by Ukrainian drones In August with huge plumes of black smoke rising from the base as tourists watched in horror,
It is understood that the Navy headquarters took a direct hit when a drone exploded on the roof.
The Russians claimed that the ship was destroyed after its capture, although the explanation is believed to be unlikely unless its intelligence services already knew.
Ukrainian private operators are known to conduct waterborne raids in southern Ukraine, so the ship could have been on a surveillance mission when it drifted ashore, The Drive reports.
What was described as “unmanned coastal defense vessels” was part of a military aid package to Ukraine that the Pentagon announced in April.
“It is an unmanned surface ship that can be used for a variety of purposes in coastal defense,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said at the time.
“I guess I’ll leave it at that.”
